IoT Waikato November Meetup

The Centre for Research and Applied Innovation invites you to the IoT Waikato November Meetup, where we will be hearing about a digital agriculture pilot here in the Waikato, IoT networks and how to get connected, an Angel Investor talking about what investors look for when investing in technology, and we will have a speaker calling in from Australia to talk about shaping the organisations IoT business strategy.

Connecting Farms pilot – Greg Shepherd
Spark has partnered with NIWA, Farmlands, and Ballance Agri-Nutrients to pilot a new concept in on farm digital services starting with about 40 farms in the Matamata-Piako region, with a further 20 farms to be added in the South Island.

Greg Shepherd from Spark Ventures is coordinating the pilot and will be talking about how farmers can get real-time information about what is going on all over their farm through an array of sensors connected to Spark’s new, low-power network dedicated to providing connectivity for the ‘Internet of Things’. Farmers will also have access to improved Wifi connectivity and on-farm decision tools developed by the partners.

KotahiNet – Vikram Kumar
KotahiNet is an Internet of Things company based in Wellington. Over the past three years, the company has provided IoT solutions comprising of devices, software, wireless connectivity, and data management. KotahiNet runs a wireless IoT network based on LoRaWAN, currently covering 75% of New Zealand’s population. Besides New Zealand, customers are in Australia, Europe, Asia, Canada, and Pacific Islands.

Vikram is the founder of KotahiNet. He will describe one, simple project that has valuable lessons and insights about early stage IoT and innovation efforts. Vikram will also briefly describe what the company can offer to support such efforts.

Enterprise Angels – Julian So

Enterprise Angels is an angel investment group that invests in startups. Enterprise Angels are based in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty with 200 members and to date, they have invested over $30m in 65 different early stage companies.

Julian So will talk about investments they have made to date, what investors are looking for, how to increase your chances of raising capital and common themes that will turn investors off.

The Rise of the Internet of Things: Business Opportunities and Risks – David Goad

David Goad teaches at both Sydney University and the University of New South Wales in the areas of innovation, business applications, digital business management and accounting information systems, and is also a member of the IoT Association of Australia providing consulting advice to entrepreneurs starting new businesses and to enterprises developing their IoT strategy.

David will be calling in remotely and talking about shaping your IoT business strategy by asking the smart questions in order to experience business transformation and growth rather than disruption and obsolescence.
